FRANCISCAN VOCATION(This site is intended to be viewed in Adobe/Macromedia Flash. This plain text version of the site is for use in indexing by search engines. WHO WE AREWe are members of the order of Friars Minor - commonly known as "Franciscans" after the name of our Founder, St. Francis of Assisi. The order includes many thousands of men and women who take the vows of religious life and many more Christian faithful who belong to the Secular Franciscan Order. The center of our life is to live as St. Francis, bringing aid to those who most need help. We are sustained in this by our life of community and prayer. Our vocation involves our priests and brothers in missions throughout the world, education, direction of parishes, spiritual-retreat guidance for laymen, and general works of charity among the poor. WHO HE ISSaint Francis of Assisi (1182 - October 3, 1226) was a Roman Catholic friar and the founder of the Order of Friars Minor, more commonly known as the Franciscans. Francis: A Man with a Message In his lifetime, he was known simply as "Il Poverello," the poor one. Yet few poor men in the history of the world have touched as many souls and affected as many lives as Francis of Assisi. The ideals he embraced - his passion for peace, his quest for simplicity and his respect for all of creation - are as relevant today as they were to the medieval society into which he was born more than 800 years ago. OUR WORKThe center of our life is to live as St. Francis, bringing aid to those who most need help. We are sustained in this by our life of community and prayer. Many orders and congregations were founded to do a specific work. Over the ages the Franciscans have turned their hands to the many needs of the world. We are called to serve the poor, the marginalized, and the outcasts. OUR VOCATIONDo you believe that you may be interested in becoming a Franciscan?
